Clients select BB&T-Carson Insurance Services for Lighthouse Project award

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – BB&T-Carson Insurance Services of Charleston was one of two “Online Client Vote Spirit Award” winners in the 2016 BB&T Lighthouse Project.

As part of its “Grandview Backpack Program,” agency employees shopped, packed and delivered 210 backpacks of food every Friday for the last five weeks of the school year to help address a critical need at Charleston’s Grandview Elementary School.

The school serves as a hub for a free summer lunch program for the entire community. A Title 1 school, most Grandview students live in low-income neighborhoods and lack enough food outside of regular school hours.

The online vote from clients, through BB&T’s “U” app, means Grandview will receive an additional $5,000 donation.

BB&T completed more than 1,000 community service projects as part of last year’s Lighthouse Project, which included 57,000 volunteer hours on behalf of more than 1.7 million people.

Since the Lighthouse Project began in 2009, BB&T employees have completed more than 7,700 community service projects, provided more than 385,000 volunteer hours, and served more than 11 million people.
