Florida agency wins Safeco’s ‘Make More Happen’ Award

Safeco Insurance has named BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company of Fort Myers, Fla., as a “Make More Happen” Award winner in recognition of the agency’s 2015 Lighthouse Project.

BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company employees volunteered more than 80 hours at the Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers (DVIC) office this summer. The BB&T-OTC service project included carpentry, painting, providing supplies and helping the nonprofit move to their new office on Concourse Drive.

The BB&T insurance agency is one of 33 independent agencies across the nation selected by Safeco for a “Make More Happen” Award. The award recognizes community volunteerism and includes a $3,000 donation from Safeco.

The award-winning agencies and the nonprofits they support are showcased in the “Make More Happen” Contest for fall, where voting results determine additional donation amounts. If total votes in the online contest reach a 28,000 vote goal, Safeco will give away an additional $500 to each of the 33 nonprofits for a total of $16,500.

The three agency-and-nonprofit teams with the most votes when the three-week contest ends will earn even more for their nonprofits: $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second place, and $3,000 for third. Vote at http://www.safeco.com/make-more-happen through Nov. 16.

The contest also features stories about why the insurance agencies volunteer and a comment section where visitors can leave words of encouragement.

“From my personal experience, independent agents are some of the most caring individuals in a community, but often their good work goes on behind the scenes,” said Jeff Ogard, vice president of agency relations at Safeco Insurance. “Safeco’s ‘Make More Happen’ Award program helps to call attention to the big hearts of agents and the charities they support.”

DVIC offers job training, job opportunities and the prospect of a meaningful career in the insurance industry to disabled veterans.

Founded in 1923, Boston-based Safeco Insurance sells personal automobile, homeowners and specialty products through a network of more than 10,000 independent insurance agencies throughout the United States. Safeco is a Liberty Mutual Insurance company.
